“Recent Developments in Competition Law” workshop at the Judicial Academy

On 11th October the representatives from the Croatian Competition Agency (CCA) held a workshop on “Recent Developments in Competition Law” at the Judicial Academy in Zagreb.

The workshop was opened by Mirta Kapural, PhD, president of the Competition Council, who provided an introduction in competition law and the basic terms typically used in this branch of law. Prohibited agreements (cartels) between undertakings that are considered the most serious infringements of competition law, were explained through a concrete example of a prohibited agreement concluded between the driving schools in Split. EU law in this area was also presented through a selection of cases of the General Court and examples from the European Commission practice.

Vesna Patrlj, head of Competition Division, informed the participants about the procedures carried out by the CCA, recent amendments to the Competition Act, and particularly about the settlement in competition law. Hrvoje Šeremet, member of the Council, spoke about prohibited horizontal and vertical agreements in competition law, citing examples from the CCA practice, the European Commission, and the EU courts.

The workshop was attended by 17 participants, including judges from commercial and administrative courts and representatives of the State Attorney’s Office (DORH).
